Networked Earth and Google Earth
...two...no three big items this weekend. And all of them have to do with globality and the net.
The first one - Quentin D'Souza hosts a free "Google Earth: Educator Perspectives" Open Weekend at Knowplace from Friday through Sunday (Jan 11-13). Ok, I know it is not directly related to music, but Quentin could help you find a way to explore the music of the world using Google Earth as a tool. Quentin has been at Knowplace before and he does an awesome job of explaining a free, incredible Web 2.0 tool - Google Earth. Did I say "free"...
Also beginning this weekend, TESOL Electronic Village Online opens it's 2008 version of EVOnline 08. Another free event that has a global perspective, this online conference last for six weeks and the participant can sign up for several venues that have to do with teaching language or using technology. "...the Music is Free..." Ning Network will be a part of one of those venues, "I Got Rhythm: Music in the Classroom". Lee Baber and I will host the workshop as a way to help an international group of instructors to create and introduce new and creative ways to incorporate music into their classroom efforts. Finally, next week begins the Australian SCoPE-sponsored "The Future of Learning in a Networked World" (FLNW08). This free online conference runs from Jan 18 to Jan 28, 2008 and endeavors to build connections, explore new possibilities, expand individuals horizons and network knowledge in travelling open space un-conferences where anything can happen and does without regularity. You might recognize this conference as a re-iteration of last years TALO conference or the even earlier TALO swapmeets. Whatever the name, the conference always brings together an amazing assortment of intellegent individuals who connect and network and generally produce an amazing view of how things are changing. You don't want to miss this one either. Oh, and did I say it was "Free"?
So there it is...in the period of a week, the world is flatter and smaller and more connected....
