Finally, I am back at the computer...
A few more days and this course will be finished...over...ended - OR -
in a few more days this community of learners will continue to grow.
That choice is yours. I have already made mine. I am going to
continue to try to help teachers bring more music into the classroom,
whether that classroom is Math, or English, or Spanish, or Automotive
Repair....well, OK, maybe I haven't fully thought out automotive
repair. But only you can decide whether you want to journey onward
with us or not.
If you decide that you do NOT wish to continue, then you will need to unsubscribe yourself.
1. To Unsubscribe from the YahooGroup:
a. Sign in to Yahoo! Groups and go to your group on the web.
b. From any page on the group, click the Edit Membership link at the top of the page.
c. Click the Leave Group link at the bottom right of the page.
d. Confirm on the next page.
The group will no longer be listed on the My Groups page, and you’ll no longer receive messages.
To leave/unsubscribe via email:
From your email program, send a blank message to:
musicbridges-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
This should take care of any unsubscriptions from the MusicBridges YahooGroup.
2. The Moodle is still down, and unless, I can piece it back together, you should receive not further messages from it. If I resurrect it successfully, you will receive a notice on how to unsubscribe from it if you wish.
3. The Ning Network:
Here are the steps for leaving a network:
a) Sign in to www.ning.com
b) Click on the “My Networks” tab to see all of your social networks.
c) Go to each social network you’d like to remove yourself from and click the “My Settings” link in the right column of the page.
d) You will see a link to “Leave Network.” Click this link.
You’ll now be removed from this network, along with all of your content! You will need to do this for each network you wish to leave.
I hope that will ease your withdrawal, if that is what you desire.
IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE ONWARD WITH US....DO NOTHING. You will continue to be enrolled in the YahooGroup and the Ning.
(NOTE: Lee will have to explain how she plans to handle the MusicBridges Drupal from here on)
I think it would be pretty easy to wallow in a "what went wrong?" discussion at this point, but I much prefer a "what worked dialog". Isolating the causes of dysfunction often has a role, but of greater potential is finding the causes of functionality. So what went right?
I like the Ning Network, and having used it for this experience, I plan to continue to devote my efforts to not only improving it, but to adding more constructive elements to it. I am a long time Moodle fan, but right now, my Moodle is not online and is of little value. The Ning on the other hand has grown, matured and offers links well beyond the capabilities of the Moodle.
The Ning will stay. It worked.
Music works. Music is a huge array of elements to explore. We knew before the six weeks EVO 08 project started, that there was no way to cover all the possible elements involved in bringing music into the classroom. In fact, both Lee and I felt strongly, that the EVO 08 was just another step in the right direction. I think we have both learned much from this experience and I think we will both continue to work forward. We are currently trying to hammer out ways in which we can continue to stay connected and still have separate and different audiences. Those sorts of things will take time.
So Music will continue to have a place here. It works.
EVO 08 worked. As difficult as it may seem to realize right now, all of you received a phenomenal dose of internet reality in your involvement in EVO 08. You may have felt overwhelmed, or you may have felt that you didn't get to do it all....or a variety of other emotions regarding this potentially life-altering incident in your life. I think most of you will continue to move with EVO in the direction of incorporating technology into your classrooms. I suspect I will see many of your names on the Sunday chats at Tapped In, or on the BAW08 YahooGroup. I remember my first year, and how strange I felt when the classes were over....sort of like I had become someone new. In time, I relished and still do relish that side of me.
So EVO 08 worked.
The participants grew. I think you will be surprised (if you have not already experienced it), at how differently you may start to see your classroom. Suddenly, your isolated group in whatever country you live, is part of a connected world. A world in which we all share a dedication to help others freely learn and explore. A world where "keeping up" has become a key element of your classroom plan. I suspect that we have successfully planted the seeds of invention in your brains. There will be times in the future when you will just automatically ask yourself, "is there a way to make this class exercise more fun, or useful by adding a musical element?" And whether or not you find the right answer, you will at least explore the potential.
So participation worked.
In the last ten days, every member of my family has been ill. All but two of us have had to go to the emergency room at a hospital. I am not looking for sympathy, but I am trying to explain my absence for the last ten days. I just didn't have the abilities needed to continue to read, write and listen. I want you to know this because I want you to know that I am better now, and back online. I am still contacting additional speakers to come and share their knowledge and I am still writing ways to bring music into the classroom. I will be continuing this for some time. I hope next year, you will stop by while you are EVO 09 and say Hello, because I plan to be there. One year more mature. One year wiser. One year further down the road. I Hope.
One final thought. Many of you started this group stating that you were not musically inclined. For those of you, how many wake up each day, by "singing in the shower", "humming while driving down a road", "listening to the radio" in the background. For you, YOU ARE A MUSICIAN. You are as much a part of the music world the artist themselves. Embrace your musical self and bring it out. Bring it to the fore of your classroom and ask your students to emulate you. Anyone who can clap their hands, whistle, tap their feet or just listen is part of the music process. Celebrate it.
Thanks for your time,
elderbob
