Ok, it's the official end of the TESOL BAW08 EVonline session called "I Got Rhythm: Music in the Classroom"....well, actually, it's not even the end of that. I suppose if I have to mark a date, it might be the end of the EVonline session, but really, everything here, will continue to roll on, until the wheels fall off. I am already working on more interviews, and I promise to be more attentive to the blog part of the site, and I hope that now that things are starting to get back to normal for so… Continue

This is not meant to be a political message, but it is about the politicians who have passed the laws that govern the current copyright agenda. The Down with Tyranny blog is carrying a nice piece on how Republican candidates are using tunes written by Democratic band members in violation of copyright laws, to forward their own personal political agendas. And I thought what was good for the goose, w… Continue

Finally, I am back at the computer...
A few more days and this course will be finished...over...ended - OR -
in a few more days this community of learners will continue to grow.
That choice is yours. I have already made mine. I am going to
continue to try to help teachers bring more music into the classroom,
whether that classroom is Math, or English, or Spanish, or Automotive
Repair....well, OK, maybe I haven't fully thought out automotive
repair. But only you can decide whether you want to jou… Continue

Thanks to "Lightnin'" Lee Baber, February 9's recording of our webcast interview with Dr. Joseph Pisano is already up on Lee's MusicBridges Drupal. Quality-wise, it's our best interview so far, and in terms of content, Dr. Pisano was great. We still have some more folks to interview, and I think Lee and I both are so satisfied with the interviews that these will continue well after the EVO 08 sessions are over with. So stay tuned for more. I will… Continue

Tomorrow, we have the great opportunity to interview Dr. Joseph Pisano, Assistant Chairman of Music and Fine Arts at Grove City College in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Dr. Pisano will be discussing with several items with us, such as using classical music archives in the classroom, and some of the equipment that can be used, and using more modern music without breaking copyright rules. He can only be with us for one hour, so be sure to have your headphones on at the… Continue

That's right. We are having a contest. Lee and I are sponsoring a contest to liven up the conversation in our course. If you think you might be interested ( and who wouldn't be), then you need to read the contest flier. More information will follow.
If any of you have tried to enter the course at ElderUniversity, you have been met with a message that the site will no longer open. Without going into great detail, I can tell you that at present the account is closed while an internal problem gets resolved. The end result will be that the class will either go back on-line just like it was when it was last seen, or the class will be moved to another server, and the data from the first few weeks may be lost. If the data is lost, then it may requ… Continue

February 2, was Groundhog day here. Folk tradition states that if the Groundhog comes out of his nest in the ground and see's his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. It was quite sunny here.
I'm not at all sure about the six weeks of winter...in fact, in Texas terms, that does not mean much at all...we have yet to even have a hard freeze here, and we are not that far from spring. What I do know is that the EVO class is about half over with....where'd it go?
For those of you who found an interest in new ways to consider copyright laws in terms of the internet, here is an opportunity to read fresh materials from one of the great interpreters of internet and copyright law. Lawrence Lessis is a law professor at Stanford U, in California. He has made available, via the net, his latest interpretation of the future of the ownership of ideas in a book, "The Future of Ideas".
"In The Future of Ideas, Lawrence Lessig explains how the

Sorry but this weeks webcast has been canceled. It was just not possible to find a suitable hour for even most of us to be online. In it's place we are planning a one on one interview with Michael Coghlan and will have it online as a downloadable MP3, next week.
Karen Ellis of the National Children's Folksong Repository gave us more than an hours worth of insight last Sunday via a webcast. Lee and I both know that it will be impossible for all of you to get together at one time to listen to any speaker we have, so we have done the second best thing. We have recorded the live sessions so that you can download them and listen to them directly as if you were there at the same time.
Ms. Ellis presented us a fascinating look at the links between la… Continue
NOTE: For the last couple of days, this column had been mistakenly labeled Week Three. It really isn't Week Three, it's really about Week Two. I have since changed the subject and corrrected the mistakes to read correctly. - Sorry about that.
Belatedly, Week Two is now open on the ElderUniversity "I Got Rhythm: Music in the Classroom" course. The materials there strive to help us all get an idea of what music really is. Not necessarily what is playing on the car radio, but what m… Continue
All of us have memories associated to a tune. Music is and has always been part of our lives. Has it ever happened to you that you are doing something not paying attention to the music you are listening on the radio, for example, and suddenly, you hear a familiar tune that immediately makes you go back to a moment in you past when you listened to that piece of music?
That has to do with different processes in your brain that ancho
