Hometown:
Grand Prairie, Texas, USA
About Me:
In 2001, I retired from a job as a State bureaucrat, that had become boring and overburdened with paperwork, to seek a more satisfactory life. So I put on my boots and cowboy hat and herded up my family, my worldly goods and my trusty laptop, and put them all in a horse-power driven station wagon, and headed for new horizons. We set out to establish a new virtual community in the new 2.0 World. After months of wandering the hills and valleys of Second Life, visiting the webcasters at Learning Times, EdTechTalk, and WholeWheatRadio, chatting with the Webheads of EVOnline, learning the ways of the midi-keyboard and consulting the wisdom managers at Tapped In and Alado, we finally arrived here on the Grand Prairie and created Elderville. The community attracted other geriatrigeeks, infopreneurs, tune ticklers and tekkies seeking new ways to live and interact. Since then, or community borders have grown to embrace Moodlers, Ningers, Joomlites and an assortment of musically related gypsies. We are a happy little group who spend most of our time planting the seeds of knowledge and harvesting the information fruit that is the result of our labors. I am much happier now, even though I still haven't figured out what I want to do with the rest of my life. The experience has taught me that it is never too late to become all you ever wanted to be.

So I hope that you, whether musician, electronic wizard or educational explorer, will join us in our little community and grow with us.

Olympic Opening

For any of you out there who are band directors who field a marching band, a new standard was set tonight. I tried to find a you tube video of the opening ceremonies, but instead I found these. These great photos will will give you much to think about as you diagram out next years on-field p… Continue

The loss of Lee Baber

Heaven has a new Banjo player tonight. Lee Baber, my friend and associate passed away last Thursday night. Lee was a tremendous influence on a lot of people including me. I am going to continue this network in Lee's memory. You can share your thoughts about Lee and her influence on us all by adding them to this memorial here.

This is not the end.

Ok, it's the official end of the TESOL BAW08 EVonline session called "I Got Rhythm: Music in the Classroom"....well, actually, it's not even the end of that. I suppose if I have to mark a date, it might be the end of the EVonline session, but really, everything here, will continue to roll on, until the wheels fall off. I am already working on more interviews, and I promise to be more attentive to the blog part of the site, and I hope that now that things are starting to get back to normal for so… Continue

"More than a feeling" - Politics and Copyright

This is not meant to be a political message, but it is about the politicians who have passed the laws that govern the current copyright agenda. The Down with Tyranny blog is carrying a nice piece on how Republican candidates are using tunes written by Democratic band members in violation of copyright laws, to forward their own personal political agendas. And I thought what was good for the goose, w… Continue

Almost over...

Finally, I am back at the computer...
A few more days and this course will be finished...over...ended - OR -
in a few more days this community of learners will continue to grow.
That choice is yours. I have already made mine. I am going to
continue to try to help teachers bring more music into the classroom,
whether that classroom is Math, or English, or Spanish, or Automotive
Repair....well, OK, maybe I haven't fully thought out automotive
repair. But only you can decide whether you want to jou… Continue

Btw, I was indirectly participating in this session through Delicious. Have you noticed I've posted to your delcious network some links relevant to music technology & education, Elderbob?

I'm not justifying my absence but was doing me best to contribute to this wonderful gathering.

Cheers!

ElderBob, I miss you a lot, and I'm so happy to be here with you, Lee, and other friends on this ning! I'm sorry it took me so long to respond but as you know I'm co-moderating another session and the learning flows are none stop these days, as you know, but good that I'm Learning 2 at last :)

Thanks for the invitation! I feel a bit overwhelmed, as I'm already taking the courses "Becoming a Webhead" and "Integrating Technology in Adult ESL", but I couldn't help joining this group. I've been surfing a little in ElderUniversity moodle, and I've liked it a lot so far.

Hi Elderbob,
Thanks for organizing such a fabulous session with Lee. I am really enjoying it already.

By the way, I solved my problem with ElderUniversity moodle; the confirmation link was trapped in my spam box!

Hugs,
Mary

Crina,
You work with a wonderful age group. They must be a real joy to you.

Next week, we hope to have at least one podcast up for you to download and perhaps you can listen to it on your way to work. You might also want to check out Lee's MusicBridges Drupal. I think if you prowl around a bit, you will find some podcasts there. I am also wondering what other class you chose to take.

Hello and thanks for giving me the oportunity to learn something new for my pupils. I teach children from 3rd grade to the 8th grade. I noticed that when we sing songs they are having fun and tend to cooperate better than in other activities. This is one of the reasons I joined this group, and the other one would be that I listen to a lot of music everyday on my way to work. That's because it takes me about an hour to get there.
